1987
In a school holiday, young Johann Bothma starts working as a runner boy for the well-respected Erich Frey Jewellers in the Pretoria CBD. Here he is introduced to the manufacturing of creative handcrafted jewellery. After completing his National service, he starts his three year apprenticeship at Erich Frey under mentorship of Maurice Pitol .
1991
Johann decides to go it alone, operating as sole proprietor under his own name, manufacturing handcrafted creative jewellery from a small apartment in Pretoria North.
1992 – 1993
They move to a bigger premises to make space for their expanding business. In 1993 Johannes Mogashoa starts working for Johann, the first of many apprentices and employees to work for and learn from Johann.
1995
Altin Jewellers CC was officially born on 16 January 1995. Altin means ‘gold’ in Turkish.
1997
Anneke Bothma, today equal owner of Altin Jewellers, takes over full-time responsibility for accounting, administration and personnel.
2001
Altin Jewellers opens their Design Studio in Waterkloof Ridge.
2005
On 5 November 2005 Liezl Botha starts working as a jewellery manufacturer at Altin. Currently still with Altin, Liezl is our longest employed team member.
Shop G133
2012 – 2020
Altin Jewellers opens in shop G133, Parkview Shopping Centre, on 24 November 2012. The workshop is also located here. For the first time Altin Jewellers now operates from a retail premises.
2021 forward
Atin Jewellers closed its Parkview Shopping Centre shop and moved to its New Design Studio in Waterkloof.
The new studio situated in the relaxing environment gives the client a new experience to be part of the interactive design process.
